The Critical Repairs program helps low-income homeowners in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties stay safely and comfortably in their homes. We focus on urgent health, safety, and accessibility needs that affect daily living — especially for seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

What is covered?

Roof leaks or structural damage

  • Unsafe electrical or plumbing systems

  • Non-functioning heating or hot water systems

  • Mold or water intrusion

  • Accessibility modifications (shower/tubs, grab bars, widened doorways)

⚠️ We are not able to assist with cosmetic upgrades, full remodels, or new additions

Do I Qualify?

  • Own and live in the home as your primary residence

  • Live in Houghton, Baraga, or Keweenaw County

  • Have a household income within 30–60% of Area Median Income (AMI)

  • Be current on property taxes or on a payment plan

  • Demonstrate a need for critical health/safety-related repairs

  • Be willing to partner with Habitat (e.g., meet with staff, provide documents, etc.)
